Week 3/10/05-9/10/05
This week Andy announced us for first time the upcoming MA Forum which would take place on 20th of October. Moreover we planned an on-line discussion for next week with the on-line MA students.
About the MA Forum.
The MA Forum is a 2 hours presentation of an academic subject related to our course. That forum would be presented by Digital Arts Students to an audience of Drawing Students in one of the classes of the University.
In other words most of the time spent in the University was utilised in discussing the topics of our presentation. Some of the topics we came up with were :
1) How did you get into Digital Arts
2)Current Directions
3)Computer Arts Vs Digital Arts- What is the difference
4)Transition of Analogue in Digital Arts -simulation
5)Copywriting and creative comments
6)Product Process
-It was a good start and we used wisely the little time we had. The next step was to pick some of these subjects and organise them in major categories and sub-categories.
-We also needed some reps for the on-line discussion (one from every group of students online-part time -full time) The volunteers were Paul from Part time students and Louise from Full time.
-Then we decided the online room for the next week’s discussion (common room) and an online place (AV rooms and boards) to write any ideas till that day.
I think we were all excited for the MA forum and were looking forward to it.
Week 10/10/05-16/10/05
The most important event which took place during this week was the on-line chat with the on-line MA students on Tuesday the 11th at 13.30. We know that we were about to face a disorganization of more than 20 opinions written real time with a keyboard as media. …And that happened . It took us one hour to start planning the conversation . It was decided to make 3 major subject areas to talk about and that was something very basic to concentrate and lead our thoughts. A student came with a very good solution . He made 3 boards with each subject area in the discussion room were every student could come and write his/her ideas any time.
The three subject areas were:
-the digital culture
-Process and Product
-Authorship, Collaboration and Licensing.
Week 17/10/05-23/10/05
18/10 Face to face discussion and final thoughts for the MA forum. This discussion took place 11.30 in the Studio and we organise who is going to say what and some ideas for the presentation like an online communication with the on-line student via web camera and microphone and some images or sketches that we could project on the wall during the MA Forum.
19/10 Tutorials. That day some of us we had tutorials with Andy Stiff in his office. It was my first tutorial as long as I missed the first one with Maria for personal reasons. I propose to Andy what I am thinking to day and he gave me feed back, help and some references to watch. I find this tutorials very useful because an experience person has always something to give us.
20/10 MA forum. The MA forum took place in the central building of Camberwell University with an audience of more than 30 people-Digital Arts and Drawing Students.
-The Introduction was a general idea of Digital Arts and the Digital Culture as main theme presented by Paul.
-Then the second part of the forum was Digital arts as Process and Product presented by James, Christina etc.
-Afterwards we talked about Authorship, Collaboration and Licensing.
-In the final part we had the online presentation by two online students from other parts of the world real time, something really exciting. In this part we also had a conversation answering questions of the MA Drawing Students.
During the MA forum Louise was projecting digital works of the online students via another projector an eye -candy which made the presentation even more interesting. Some of the students recorded audio visually the MA Forum as archive.
To sum up I think and is not only my opinion that the event went really good and the students are eager to work together and do something similar sometime. Congratulations to Andy , to the reps and to all the students we worked for this in such a tight time.
